A Year To Be Read
Hello Readers,
In 2021 I have challenged myself to read a book a week. Some people will scoff at this, a book a week is easy. Others will balk, wondering who would read that much. My point of writing this is mainly to keep myself accountable. Whether anyone reads it or enjoys it is something I hope for, but not something I will endeavor after actively. Feel free to share this, or keep it as a secret pleasure.
Every week I will write about the book I have most recently read. The plot, what I enjoyed, what I disliked, and what I plan on reading the next week.
I read mostly non-fiction. Often narratives, sometimes self improvement, though I will admit I have a weakness for the like of Dean Koontz and Steven King. So their tomes may sneak there way in from time to time. While I have and do enjoy fantasy, sci-fi, and many other fiction genres (many of which clutter my shelves), I find the world a fascinating places in and of itself. There are so many incredible adventures, places, and people in reality I resist the draw of delving into the fantastical worlds of fiction to learn more about the world.
Finally I'll explain the title of my blog. Stay Vivid. Ray Bradbury opened my favorite book with a phrase that has stuck in my mind ever since, I even have it inscribed on a Zippo. "It was a pleasure to burn". I'm sure many of you have read Fahrenheit 451, a book about government censorship obviously. Well actually not, but we'll get to that in a minute. This book made me fall in love with reading, I've reread it several times over the years, and each time I find it an incredible journey. The trials and thoughts of Guy Montag resonant with me few other characters have. In 2018, the film based (somewhat) on the book came out. Now I did enjoy the movie, however the irony of the movie was not lost on me. Because according to Bradbury himself, Fahrenheit 451 was not actually about censorship, although it is a prevailing theme. It is instead about how society has stopped reading books and started watching too much TV. Bradbury also that that most TV was trash. However he did write for some TV shows, so... Maybe he really just wanted people to read more and have better taste in TV. But back to the point, in the movie, Stay Vivid is plastered all over the buildings, to remind people to keep an eye out for the evil books. And that's what I would like my readers to do. Stay Vivid, keep an eye out for books, preferably not evil ones. Read what you enjoy. Turn the pages, tap the kindle, or hit play on an audio book. Whatever way you prefer to read.
So dear reader, come with me on this journey, maybe it will help you find some books you enjoy, or what books to not waste your time on.
And remember, Stay Vivid.
