Homicide - 8/3/21

Hello Detectives,  Book 40: Homicide: A year on the killing streets (9/10) Premise: A reporter follows around Baltimore Homicide squad for a year.  This book is a whirlwind of crime, cops inner thoughts, drama, and is honestly tiring just to put yourself in the shoes of these detectives.  David Simon follows around/interviews/works with the Baltimore Homicide department for a year so that he can learn how they think, what they do, and even throw in some interesting pieces of information not generally known to the public.  I found this book extremely interesting, and at points emotionally exhausting. The small amount of time these detectives get to close a case, which is the end of someone's life. The amount of support they get, and the amount on their plates.  Overall it was a very interesting look into the real life crimes and life of the people who investigate them and in all honesty gave me a few interesting insights when watching true crime documentaries in ...

Chase Darkness with Me - 8/3/21

Hello Sleuths   Book 39: Chase Darkness with me: How One True-Crime Writer Started Solving Murders (8/10) I remember the premise of this book, but the details are just a blur to me. However I do remember enjoying it even though it didn't make a deep impression.  A true crime author was tired of unsolved cases so he started using his own knowledge, skills, and persistence to solve cold cases the cops had given up on.  Hearing from the investigators perspective without the professionalism of a law enforcement agent and the passion of a man who wants nothing more than to help bring peace to families is a thrilling read. You feel like you're in the passenger seat as he's breaking these cases wide open and helping solve cases which would otherwise still be unsolved with families wondering if their loved ones with ever have the justice they deserve.  so get ready to help solve some crimes and remember dear readers, Stay Vivid

The Hobbit + The Lord of the Rings Trilogy 8/3/21

Greetings Readers,  Book 35-38: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy & the Hobbit (8/10) It has been a while since I've written on here, but that does not mean my reading has stopped. This blog post is about the (main) parts of Tolkiens world, Middle Earth.  The Hobbit is a children's book much more than the main trilogy, and also a prequil. It talks about Bilbo Baggins and his adventures throughout Middle Earth, traveling with dwarves, fighting dragons, avoiding orcs and more. It is also the story of how the one ring found it's way from obscurity to a thriving, if small, sub species of creatures in Middle Earth.  The Trilogy is about the rings destruction, the travels of a party of adventurers, their splitting up, finding each other again, and a war for land they were on. Tolkien writes in a way invites the reader to learn so much about the land the adventure takes place. Not simply the story and some lore but a whole slew of other information, flushing out the world in a u...
