The Amityville Horror - 04/05/21

 Hello Horror Fanatics,

Book 22: The Amityville Horror (5/10)

Premise: The Lutz family moves into a house for 28 days before leaving because the paranormal activity is more than they can handle.

This book is touted as both fiction and non-fiction. But most likely it is an elaborate lie to sell copies of this book. Now that that's out of the way let's dive in. The house in Amityville where this takes place was the scene of a horrific murder, the adult son killed his parents and siblings one year earlier. However the place was large and very affordable so the Lutz's decided to move in anyway.

They have the house blessed by their old priest, and start to move their stuff in. Soon they all notice changes in each others behaviors. The children are louder and more rude, the husband has a shorter temper and is always cold, and the wife never wants to leave the house but doesn't feel safe their alone, and the dog sleeps a lot. If you've seen any haunted house movie or other book it follows the same line. It wasn't bad at first but then it gets worse. They start seeing and hearing more, and getting more effected by the spirits. Eventually leading to them trying to leave the house, being pushed back, and finally being able to leave and never looking back.

And that's the story, it's not unique, although it may have been at the time. It's not extremely unique. Although I wasn't alive when it came out and it could've been groundbreaking at the time. Honestly with all the investigations that went on, and people who lived there after without reporting anything it seems extremely unlikely that anything ever happened at this location and the Lutz's were just looking for a quick buck. It was written well, but touting it as Non-Fiction just feels insulting in some way.

So always check for the pig man outside your window,

and remember dear readers, Stay Vivid.
